Looking Back on Our Cabo Vacation.

Hello! We had a wonderful vacation, but it feels good to be back here (finally!). I shared a few photos on Instagram while we were there, but I didn’t look at everything all together until this past weekend. Here’s a peek at my Top Ten (warning – lots of sunshine, beautiful food, ocean views and selfies 😊). Hands down the best photo of the two of us, taken at the beginning of a sunset sailing cruise on Monday evening. This is at Land’s End – the Pacific Ocean is on the other side of that rock behind us. The best sunrise (with my favorite morning beverage – the cappuccino was…

    FO Friday Two-fer.

First up, here’s 2nd Avenue … in the 2nd Avenue subway station (yep, Sara did acquiesce). It was still hot the day we left the city, but I had the scarf with me on the train and it was a perfect layer with the sleeveless dress. It cooled off in New Haven, and I actually got to wear the scarf for the first time last Friday. with a chambray shirt (just like I envisioned when I bought those five crazy skeins). How cool that its first “in action” photo was with New Haven pizza! I repeated that outfit yesterday (yay for October weather!) and know the scarf is going to…

    Back Home.

…but still a ways to go before things start feeling “settled” – at least on my part. Holly took all of about five minutes to find her happy place here again. I did take a quick run to the lake yesterday; it was glorious. This morning I sorted through a few of the photos from last week. The underlying reason we were all gathered was certainly sad, but it was wonderful to be together. This was the first time we’d met all the cousins as adults and everyone’s first time meeting Charlie and Sam. three generations, all together the younger two generations Sam & Justin Friday night dinner It was…

Three on Thursday | Super Quick.

Beginning this week, Carole and Kat are no longer publishing a Think Write Thursday topic. Instead, they suggest we post “Three on Thursday”. They’ve done a great job with TWT; some of my favorite stories here (and on your blogs) were told in response to their topics. Thank you, Carole and Kat! This new approach works perfectly for me today as the timer on the microwave tells me I have 20:37 to finish this post! That gives me a few minutes to take out Holly before I call the Uber for the airport. So … super quick: 1. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that Charlie and his…

    Alaska | The Beginning.

…is always the best place to start, right? We all arrived in Vancouver at different times, but Thursday, August 17, we were there together. The cruise left that afternoon, so we had the morning free. After I wrote a quick blog post, I walked over to Stanley Park with Karen and Ron. It was a beautiful blue skies day and we had a gorgeous view of the city from the park. We boarded the ship just in time for lunch. That was the first of many (many!!) wonderful meals, but the only time I visited the “all you can eat” buffet for lunch. It was also the only lunch I…

    A Quick Hello from Vancouver.

Hello! Stopping in quickly to share a few photos of the beautiful sights: I took a scenic walk along the waterfront yesterday afternoon – lots of activity  and lots of boats! The view was a lot calmer when I took the same walk early this morning  …and the view from our room as I type this post – we’ll be sailing in that harbor on our way out to sea this afternoon. …more soon from the ship!

    Travel Knitting.

My suitcase isn’t packed, but my knitting’s ready! Would you like to see? I wound 3,166 yards of yarn today (and 218 yards on Sunday; one of the projects is already underway) – nine cakes plus Sunday’s one for a grand total of ten. Five of those cakes (and nearly one-third of the yardage) is for 2nd Avenue. It’s a very colorful (and most uncharacteristic for me 😉 wrap with a LOT of stockinette. Yep, this is my social/cocktail project. I plan to cast on tomorrow morning en route (accompanied by a mimosa). Four of those cakes are for Whiskyfied. Melanie Berg gifted me this pattern as a thank you…

    Memorial Day Weekend 2017.

The rest of our weekend went much like the photos I shared on Friday. Blue skies and sunshine made it great to be outside. We played non-stop through Friday and Saturday (although I did get an hour of quiet time with a book on the deck Friday afternoon while a crew went to the pool). The house quieted down when the Tiemans left Sunday morning. We spent a very relaxing (honestly, almost a little too relaxing for me – I can’t remember the last time I sat around for four hours without a book or knitting) afternoon cruising the lake with one of Lydia’s co-workers. The lake is huge –…

    Mother’s Day.

Holly and I arrived safely home this afternoon; we did not travel the newly-reopened I-85, but the traffic on the other highways seemed to be responding favorably to having that thoroughfare back in business! I have a few more stories to tell about the rest of our time in Florida, but for today, how about a quick re-cap of Mother’s Day. At this point in my life, it is especially dear to me that I got to spend the day with my mom. We finished up the last to-do on her List (2016 taxes!) yesterday morning and celebrated that accomplishment with lunch out at one of our favorite places. Of…

    Five Quick Things.

…on a travel Tuesday. As soon as I post this (and pack the car 😉), Holly and I are headed to Florida to visit my mom for a week. 1. I figured out where all the heat has gone. Here’s the forecast where Mother lives. yikes, right?!! I made a quick trip to Loft yesterday and bought three sleeveless dresses – coolest things I could think to wear. 2. Glad we’ll have blue skies for our drive. 3. I pulled out a long-time hibernating project yesterday to take as my “coffee time” knitting and was most pleasantly surprised to find I was further along on it than I remembered. (more…
