Hello friends and Happy Friday! I can hear Marc chopping and plating … I’m gonna make this quick to be sure our Friday Night Snacks includes at least a few vegetables. Thinking about pockets. Are y’all fans? At best, I have mixed feelings. I feel like they pull on the front of a sweater and I rarely use them (unless they’re a key design detail … and then only for the photos). I’m cutting out my first Wiksten Dress … and I’m undecided. I think they’re a cute detail, but I cannot imagine ever using them. I’d love to hear your thoughts! Grateful for getting outside today! I enjoyed a morning…

    TGIF.

Hello Friday! I just realized that April offers five Mondays, but only four Fridays. so I’d better make the most of all of them! Thinking about so many things. and trying to keep my thoughts on (mostly?) the good things. My early morning journal time helps me sort through a lot of it. and an afternoon walk with Lauren brings more clarity. especially when we both pause to take a picture of Spring! Grateful for my Friday morning small group. Today was our first meeting about The Universal Christ. We sort of followed the Companion Guide (for the Embodiment Group) and the reflection, discussion and revelation were … well ……

Hello, friends and Happy Friday! Wanna see what a week of Spring-ish weather looks like? These are the trees that were sporting pink blooms last month.Marc interrupted my quiet time this morning with Important News. He’d just seen the weather forecast for the weekend and it promised a Saturday and a Sunday without rain … for the first time since early November. Weather promises are cheap, but I’d love for this one to be a keeper! …and on the Blue Skies note: Thinking about mysticism. I listened (twice!) to Krista Tippett’s latest podcast with Rabbi Lawrence Kushner and I’m sure I’ll listen again this weekend. I’m struck by the similarities…

    TGIF | Lightening.

It’s been a heavy week. (this really wasn’t the TGIF! opening I thought I’d be writing back on Monday) I’ve run out of fingers to count the tragic and downright crazy awful news stories that have filled my newsfeed since last Friday. and I’m sure more than a handful of y’all have experienced personal news that has knocked you for a loop (at best). geez, even I – the eternal optimist – wrote “? not feeling it” next to Tuesday’s entry about Hope.  and of course things got worse. Wednesday’s pantry runs helped a ton. as did Thursday’s spring weather. and then I woke up this morning to the news…

Three cheers for Friday! I failed to note in last week’s love letter to March that this year it has five Fridays. as if we even needed one more reason to love her 🙂 Thinking about Book Bingo. I’m not sure I want to play this summer, which also makes me not sure I want to host. If you have a strong reaction to this (in either direction), please let me know (and if you’d rather not leave a comment, you can always email me – there’s a button in the sidebar (under “Elsewhere” – it’s the envelope icon) that pops up an email window addressed to me). Thank you! Grateful…

    TGIF | Hello March.

It felt good to flip the page on my calendar this morning to see which photo would grace my desk for the next 31 days. Nothing like two of my favorite guys in coordinating plaid to make me smile! Also, a month that begins on a Friday, my favorite day of the week, just seems auspicious (never mind that February did, too!) Reflecting on the post I wrote for February’s Hope check-in, I realized I wanted something a little different for March. The actions I took in February were reactions … to discomfort, stress, everyday things. This month, I’m choosing a proactive approach – inspired by these words from Nelson Mandela…

I wrote a check last week and on Wednesday, the woman who was processing it asked if I’d really meant to date it March 8, instead of February 8 (she was very kind and offered to wait to deposit it). I checked the calendar. No, it was just my mistake – but whoa, now I feel like I’ve gained four weeks back! Happy Friday y’all! Totally loving this whole going gray with short hair thing. I had my fourth “no color” hair appointment this week. Short hair is super easy and quick! oh my goodness y’all – I had no idea how much time and energy I was putting into my…

    TGIF | Blue Sky Blooms!

Wow, what a difference a week makes! I promised y’all blooms this month … and couldn’t be more delighted to deliver on that promise so quickly. Here’s a close-up. and one for Kym (this isn’t my yard … but I am delighted every time I see one, too!) Happy Friday! Thinking about spring knitting. I know. I’ve been thinking about it all week. First up is a sample knit that I can’t share here. But next, I think it’s going to be this. in a light pink cotton/silk blend. Getting back into podcasts. I’m enjoying On Being, The Daily and The Argument. and look forward to trying out The Enneagram Journey…

    TGIF | Hello February.

Thank you for all your comments on yesterday’s post … I replied to many of you about how much I love winter’s bare branches and the shadows they cast. Winter has a stark beauty that took me years to appreciate. Somewhat switching gears … I took the photo above this afternoon. These two cherry trees are directly opposite the entrance to my neighborhood. They bloom in February. Yes BLOOM. and y’all – there are buds on those branches! I had Holly with me (and it was the end of the walk and she was ready for her cookies) so I couldn’t really get up close to show you. But I’m…

    TGIF | Three Years.

This past Wednesday marked three years since my dad’s passing. Thinking about just how much has changed. a new grandson. lots of new addresses on my holiday card list (especially Katie, Sara, my mom and Steve & Lydia). Marc transitioned from a crazy job with international travel 3-4 times a year to being home. I quit my job at the yarn shop and stopped teaching. …and how much is still the same. love. friends. family. Holly. popcorn. Grateful for having my mom live so close. Also that she is now a fan of hand knit socks and looks forward to a yarn shop outing as an opportunity to choose a…
