…bring beauty in an unexpected way. Marc gave me a lovely bouquet of pink and white flowers for Valentines Day. I think he was surprised when I told him I didn’t want to throw away these tulips. Instead, I moved them off the counter to make room for the new bouquet. Four days later they’re beautiful in a much different way. I do love a fresh bouquet. but aging tulips make my heart sing. Happy Monday!

  • Knitting

    Sometimes Mondays.

…look like sweaters in progress. along with fancy coffee drinks or tea, and a couple of hours of good girl talk. Apparently, the photo op was also a welcome opportunity to put the knitting down for bit. you know, to take off your glasses, tidy up your space, or look up something on Ravelry 🙂 It’s been a while since I shared what our Monday afternoon knitting group is working on, and I’m sure this is the first time seven of us have been knitting sweaters! That’s my Portage (for Sara) at the bottom, about 2″ into the garter stitch slog otherwise known as the collar*. Continuing counter-clockwise is Karen’s second (this…

…are perfect for a cozy (new!!!!) sweater! Indeed my finished Coatigan made her debut at knitting this afternoon. and Deena was kind enough to take a few modeled photos. If you recall that I was afraid of running short on yarn, I’m happy to report I have a LOT leftover. 3+ skeins. enough for matching mittens and maybe even a headband. and while I have no desire to knit more I-cord anytime soon, I must admit, it does make for a beautiful finish. as does yarn that spit splices (few ends to weave in) and softens up nicely after a soak. This yarn was a gift from my mother-in-law’s stash and…

…make you question the date*! Here’s what I saw when Holly and I walked in the afternoon. And here’s a glimpse from the same day last year. Weather is a crazy thing for sure, but last year it was February before we saw the Lenten Rose bloom. I hope your week is off to a sure start … for Monday, January 7! *full disclosure, this post should probably be titled Sometimes Sundays because the photos I’m sharing are from January 6 … which in 2019, was yesterday.

…build confidence. The photo below is from yesterday morning, after I finally got up the courage (and the brain power*) to take my new serger out of the box and flip through the manual.“Overwhelmed” would’ve been an understatement (not only because I’ve used a serger exactly once – the night of my Lark Tee sewing class – and even then all I did was serge four edges of a t-shirt).  I decided to wait another day (there was a silver lining – my craft room is now completely neat and tidy … and I knitted 😉 ). Thanks to that *below, I didn’t go to knitting this afternoon. Instead, I…

mark an anniversary. Yep, that was us, 35 years ago … newly married and off to enjoy a lovely dinner party with a hundred or so family and friends. This was us a few weeks back (the most recent two of us photo I have!) So glad we no longer look scared to death 🙂 but we still have smiles on our faces. Tonight’s celebration is just the two of us (plus Holly), with a roasted pork loin and a few more episodes of The Great British Baking Show. I’m looking forward to that real meal … and many more years together!

…are best spent indoors. The rain started overnight and continues … but now our house is clean, three loads of laundry are done (the two that Marc did are also folded and put away) and I’m well into the first sleeve on Jaycee. I’m sure Holly wishes she could’ve stayed indoors all day, too. but sadly … this was us three times today. She’s now dry and resting comfortably in my lap. I know we’re both planning to stay inside until tomorrow! Hope your week is off to a good start!

  • Travel

    Sometimes Mondays.

…mark the beginning of a new adventure! We leave this evening for Vienna (by way of Amsterdam), arriving early tomorrow afternoon. Our cruise begins Thursday afternoon, so we have two days to explore Vienna on our own. The only definite (besides pastries) plan is Wednesday afternoon when we’re going to tour Schönbrunn Palace. Looking forward to this adventure … and sharing it with y’all! Have a great week!
