• Just Life,  Knitting

    Sometimes Mondays.

can’t help but make you smile. Holly is back to regular morning walks beyond our little neighborhood. And the cherry trees have bloomed. I bound off and blocked Nightshift yesterday and got to wear it today – with another white blouse and jeans 😉 – because wow! it was SPRING! I went to knitting this afternoon and seamed the sleeves on my purple coat. Mixed blessing that the weather appears to be perfect for me to wear it later this week. I also got to participate in the conversation about the Super Bowl, because y’all … I watched the WHOLE THING. Don’t ask me about the football (I do know the…

    Sometimes Mondays.

are good days for catching up! I spent a few hours yesterday with my in-box and Feedly reader and enjoyed reading about what y’all have been up to. Today I have a few updates with what’s been happening around here. First, the mother of our two favorite little boys is celebrating a birthday today. (and not that anyone’s counting, but this means I’ve been a mama for 33 years!) We have plans for dinner and cake next weekend and I love that we’ll be able to celebrate in person. And now, back to the weekend before last (yep, it has been a while). My mom, sister, sister-in-law and I are…

…need no further explanation 😉 I felt just a little bit like this working through lists of lists of lists this morning. Yep, the last few days before a two-week vacation are full of to-do’s even when you’re retired. Happy Monday!

…are for getting back into old routines. I am happy to be joining Robin and The Balanced Life (along with Kat and Juliann) to get myself back into daily Pilates. Beginning today, Robin is re-running the 10 day Mind Body Pilates Challenge; the 15-minute workouts are perfect to fit into what’s looking like a full 10 days leading up to our trip. One day down and nine to go! I also enjoyed getting together with my knitting group this afternoon. While I was there, I joined the third ball of yarn for Big Love and with luck, I’ll have something actually resembling a sweater to share with y’all on Wednesday. Because…

…bring beauty in an unexpected way. Marc gave me a lovely bouquet of pink and white flowers for Valentines Day. I think he was surprised when I told him I didn’t want to throw away these tulips. Instead, I moved them off the counter to make room for the new bouquet. Four days later they’re beautiful in a much different way. I do love a fresh bouquet. but aging tulips make my heart sing. Happy Monday!

  • Knitting

    Sometimes Mondays.

…look like sweaters in progress. along with fancy coffee drinks or tea, and a couple of hours of good girl talk. Apparently, the photo op was also a welcome opportunity to put the knitting down for bit. you know, to take off your glasses, tidy up your space, or look up something on Ravelry 🙂 It’s been a while since I shared what our Monday afternoon knitting group is working on, and I’m sure this is the first time seven of us have been knitting sweaters! That’s my Portage (for Sara) at the bottom, about 2″ into the garter stitch slog otherwise known as the collar*. Continuing counter-clockwise is Karen’s second (this…

…are perfect for a cozy (new!!!!) sweater! Indeed my finished Coatigan made her debut at knitting this afternoon. and Deena was kind enough to take a few modeled photos. If you recall that I was afraid of running short on yarn, I’m happy to report I have a LOT leftover. 3+ skeins. enough for matching mittens and maybe even a headband. and while I have no desire to knit more I-cord anytime soon, I must admit, it does make for a beautiful finish. as does yarn that spit splices (few ends to weave in) and softens up nicely after a soak. This yarn was a gift from my mother-in-law’s stash and…

…make you question the date*! Here’s what I saw when Holly and I walked in the afternoon. And here’s a glimpse from the same day last year. Weather is a crazy thing for sure, but last year it was February before we saw the Lenten Rose bloom. I hope your week is off to a sure start … for Monday, January 7! *full disclosure, this post should probably be titled Sometimes Sundays because the photos I’m sharing are from January 6 … which in 2019, was yesterday.

  • Sewing

    Sometimes Mondays.

…build confidence. The photo below is from yesterday morning, after I finally got up the courage (and the brain power*) to take my new serger out of the box and flip through the manual.“Overwhelmed” would’ve been an understatement (not only because I’ve used a serger exactly once – the night of my Lark Tee sewing class – and even then all I did was serge four edges of a t-shirt).  I decided to wait another day (there was a silver lining – my craft room is now completely neat and tidy … and I knitted 😉 ). Thanks to that *below, I didn’t go to knitting this afternoon. Instead, I…
