    Throwback Thursday | Eiffel Tower.

…it’s another Newsletter day, so I’ve got to be quick here. How about a throwback to one of my favorite places…the Eiffel Tower. I first saw it in 1979 when I spent a few days in Paris with my grandparents. originally blogged here And again (actually a lot – our apartment was just two blocks away) in 2009 when I spent ten days there with Katie (to celebrate her college graduation…wow it’s hard to believe that was six years ago!) Katie & I the last night we were in Paris And finally last May when I spent a few days there with Sara. Sara and I about one year ago…

    Bonjour de Paris (le deuxieme).

…Friday night’s dinner was amazing. The Caesar salad was as good as I remembered and the chocolate tart we shared for dessert was even better. We left the restaurant and had just enough time to pick up a bottle of bubbly and find a bench… …before the show started. It was wonderful. After that it was back home and to bed and … a very late start yesterday. And it was raining. no matter. We took the metro to The Opera  and then walked to the Galeries Lafayette. (yes, Sara came to Paris to buy Keds.) The shoe department is in the basement so we’d been there a bit before…

    Bonjour de Paris.

…it’s Friday afternoon and we are back at the apartment, enjoying a bit of time off our feet and a glass of wine before we head to the 7eme for dinner (Les Cocottes. a favorite from my 2009 visit with Katie) and the Eiffel Tower light show. It seems like the weather gods might be smiling on us: it hasn’t rained since last night and it’s not supposed to rain again until tomorrow! Here’s a quick look at our first 36 hours.  Who cares if it’s cool and drizzly. it’s Paris! that was our mantra for yesterday. We are staying in the 6eme, about two blocks south of the Seine.…

    Be a Good One.

a favorite page from the book we gave Sara …wise words from a wise man. and fitting advice for the newest Georgia Tech alum to join our family. yep, Sara graduated* on Saturday with three generations of Tech graduates to cheer her on. We got there early enough to get seats with a good view…and plenty of time for a few “this is happening now” posts on Instagram.  proud parent selfie! The ceremony moved quickly and I didn’t even get a clear shot of Sara moving across that stage (my dad had the brilliant idea to aim his camera at the big screen instead of the stage and he did…

    home again.

137/365 – paris journalOriginally uploaded by mere2007…and thinking that the quote I stamped onto the cover page of my paris journal (a few weeks ago – preparing for the trip) should be my new motto. it certainly sums up the way I felt about this trip, and the ones I’ve made with sara, and how I’ve tried, especially this year, to experience my life. the last of the paris photos have finally been uploaded to flickr. wow. not sure if it was me, or a busy sunday, but it was slow and took 3 tries. if you’ve been reading the blog to keep up, the new ones are from friday…

what to do in paris when it rains.

the opera Originally uploaded by mere2007…visit the opera – this was one of the last views – the ceiling of the theater, painted by marc chagall. we loved everything we saw there (kind of like a very mini-versailles). and then we walked a quick short block to the galeries lafayettes, and au printemps and spent a few more hours shopping. tonight we’re going out – katie has scoped night spots and we’re dressing up and making up.

    down to three.

after dinner at the eiffel tower Originally uploaded by mere2007mindy flew back home yesterday, so now we’re three. with two more days in paris. we have just a few things left on our list (the opera, l’arc de triomphe, bon marche and a bit more shopping), so we have time to re-do our favorite things and maybe time to sit for a few hours at a sidewalk cafe and watch the people. we did that for a bit yesterday at lunch and it was fun. also a few more metro rides – we’ve been averaging 10+ miles a day on foot and our legs and feet are tired! katie loves…

    bonjour.

dinner at les fables de la fountaine Originally uploaded by mere2007…and greetings from paris. we’ve mailed a few postcards home, but know there’s no way the mail has delivered them yet. we are having a wonderful time – the sights (especially the art – musee d’orsay, orangerie with the water lilies and the pont alexandre with the beautiful gold), the food (oh my wow, seriously) and of course the company. truly a trip to remember! also, for some unknown reason, the internet here is now a bit faster and I’ve been able to get all our photos uploaded (300+ so far!) love to all, m.

city view Originally uploaded by mere2007…we saw it from inside the musee d’orsay yesterday. and we’re planning to see it up close today. but first a stop at the post office, then figuring out the metro. and maybe a quick stop at the boulanger (baker) for a croissant.
