    Be Kind.

I traded emails last week with a friend who said she hoped we could Make America Kind Again. That phrase resonated with me. I shared it Friday morning with my small group (amidst lively and often upsetting discussion about having an armed guard on site for Sunday worship this month and next and the beginning of Anne Lamott’s latest book) and it resonated with them too. One of our members told us about a very cool local t-shirt project (created to help a teenager on the autism spectrum learn important job skills) that puts the “Be Kind to Everyone” message front and center. Then yesterday, I read a column in…

    Sometimes Mondays.

…look like a fresh start, full of possibilities. This little mass of daisies is blooming at our neighborhood gate. I see it every morning when I take Holly for her walk. All those blooms, wide open to the sun, help me greet each day with a smile. Happy Monday!

    Sometimes Mondays.

…bring a much-welcome win! I rearranged a few things today to make time to seam the shoulders and knit the neckband. When I weighed the yarn I had left and compared it to the sleeve I still needed to finish, I actually thought I was going to win by a lot. That little ball weighs just over 3 grams. But adding in the few other scraps, there’s plenty to seam the sleeves and underarms and sew on 7 buttons. whew! Hope your week is off to a winning start, too!

    Sometimes Mondays.

… begin unexpectedly damp, gray and chilly. But this afternoon I spent two lovely hours knitting with friends, and made a quick stop at Trader Joe’s for a $4 bouquet and a $5 bottle of wine (with a beautiful spring label). There is nothing like time with friends and a little TJ’s to brighten things up 😀. Hope your week is off to a bright start, too!

    Sometimes Mondays.

…look like the start of something new! I was delighted to be chosen as a tester for Heidi Kirrmaier’s new pattern, Footprints in the Snow.  I’m a huge fan of Heidi’s patterns and this one – a simple topdown pullover with a mock turtleneck (here’s her Instagram teaser photo) – looks super wearable. I’m using Shibui Linen + Silk Cloud (yay for stash!) and love the idea of a sweater in linen, silk and a touch of mohair for spring … you know … eventually! We have a “winter weather advisory” happening here this morning. Icy rain is supposed to start any minute now. Seems like a great excuse to…

    Grief, Prayer and Healing.

from Sunday’s worship service It’s hard to believe a week has passed since we woke up to the terrible news from Las Vegas. I do not know anyone personally who was there, but a friend’s family lost a cousin (a father of three young children). It seems that Las Vegas is a lot closer to Atlanta than I ever imagined. While much of my weekend was spent with knitting and Netflix (arguably two of the very best means for healing I know), I also had three specific experiences that I wanted to share with y’all. My small group gathered Friday morning to continue our Book of Joy discussion. This week’s…

    Drive by Monday.

Since my lists are multiplying, I think it’s a perfect Monday to borrow Kat’s wonderful meme. My mom arrived Thursday and the whole crew met Saturday morning to tour her “new place”. The development has a long way to go (they’re now hoping to be moving in residents in October), but her cottage is getting close. The walls are up, the granite’s in, the tile is laid. We were able to take lots of photos and measurements and ask questions. We’re all getting excited for her move! the front door to Mother’s cottage – my sister, nephew, brother and brother-in-law in the back and me, Mother and my sister-in-law in…
