FO Friday | Willow Tank & Another Kiomi Top.

I shared this selfie on Instagram Tuesday afternoon. My first Willow Tank turned out really well! I was definitely intimidated by the bias bindings and those 1/4″ seams. Turns out, I have a 1/4″ presser foot from my quilter-wanna-be days! Worked like a charm. I was a little unsure about the fit at first – maybe it was big?. All the lovely sewists who share their projects on Instagram don’t really show much at all about fit (and let’s not even talk about how unhelpful the “garment on a hanger” or “garment on the floor with a pretty flower” photos are!) and most of the woven garments in my closet…

    Unraveled Wednesday | Bingo!

Yes indeed! I finished three more books this week and finally made not one, but two Bingos! As much fun as it is to check off those boxes, it’s even better when the books are really good: Homegoing (upper left corner). I finished this dark-early yesterday morning and I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything I want to say about it. But I’ve already told three people since then that they must read it (and I do think this is a “read with your eyes” book; I don’t say that very often, but there are a lot of characters to keep straight and the language is so beautiful you…

    FO Friday | Kiomi Top.

I’m wearing it as I type this … with a smile on my face. Marc’s playing golf this afternoon or I’d have a modeled shot to share. This is my third garment from Lotta Jansdotter’s Everyday Style. I have fabric/plans to make another top and a dress with this pattern (top in the gray printed linen and dress in the Liberty lawn – left and second to left respectively  – which I bought last month at Purl Soho). I’m glad I decided to tackle a top version, with linen I bought at JoAnns, first. This was my first time making/applying bias binding and my first time in many years sewing…

    Sometimes Mondays.

…provide the perfect opportunity to wear a new outfit! Yes! I finished the Esme Top to accompany the Owyn Shorts (both patterns from Lotta Jansdotter’s Everyday Style). The fabric is from last month’s visit to Purl Soho (1-1/2 yards of Watercolor Linen in Lilac Bark – $31.20). I think Marc smiled when I told him I’d used 30 dollars of fabric to make this. I couldn’t tell for sure though since my back was turned. My Monday afternoon knitting group includes a few seamstresses. It was especially nice to debut this first handmade outfit with ladies who “get it”. The pattern really does fit me well (I made the XS with…

    Sewing Shorts!

That’s right, y’all – I finished the shorts! and I’m officially launching the Sewing category on mere-et-filles! I’m going to wait until the top is finished to model them for you. But they fit – elastic is good that way 😉 – and I’m proud of how nice they look on the outside and the inside. I was also surprised how quickly the “actual sewing” was. I spent a few hours cutting the pieces, a few more hours researching seam finishing techniques*, half an hour practicing seams and the overlock stitch, and just a couple of hours sewing (even with having to rip and re-stitch the second hem twice). There…
