    TGIF | Hello February.

Thank you for all your comments on yesterday’s post … I replied to many of you about how much I love winter’s bare branches and the shadows they cast. Winter has a stark beauty that took me years to appreciate. Somewhat switching gears … I took the photo above this afternoon. These two cherry trees are directly opposite the entrance to my neighborhood. They bloom in February. Yes BLOOM. and y’all – there are buds on those branches! I had Holly with me (and it was the end of the walk and she was ready for her cookies) so I couldn’t really get up close to show you. But I’m…

Three on Thursday | Hello February.

from today’s morning walk Hello February, I am glad to see you! and not just because you bring signs of spring and longer days … this year, I am also looking forward to these three things: 1. New books for Lent. I’ll be reading this one on my own and this one with my Friday morning small group. 2. Mind Body Pilates Challenge from The Balanced Life. I joined The Balanced Life last March (when Robin ran a free 21-day challenge) and I still love it. This challenge runs for 10 days, beginning on February 19.  It will be just 15 minutes of Pilates and one mindful exercise per day…

    Hello February.

sunset on January 31 Hello February, I’ve been looking forward to you for weeks. Of course you have Valentine’s Day right in the middle, but there’s so much more to love about you: ♥ Longer days and those first signs of spring – cherry tree blossoms and daffodils. ♥ A birthday party for my favorite sister – who turned fifty this week. ♥ A good reason – finally! – to watch the Super Bowl. ♥ Another President’s Day weekend trip to Madison (and another reason to see if I can bang out two more sweaters before I leave on the 16th). ♥ A visit from my friend Diane, our first…

    Dear February.

Dear February, I realized this past week just how much I’ve been looking forward to you (not at all a new thing, except I apparently forget every.single.year. shame on me). Of course I wish you’d been just a little more consistent in what season you were bringing. Last weekend it was spring (or yikes, summer? yep, Marc wore shorts to golf!) and today it was freezing (literally. I had sleet on my windshield this morning). I must admit to a slight preference for winter leaning into spring. My post-holiday knit-for-myself thing has resulted in two new sweaters that are for sure for winter and I’d love the chance to wear…

    TGIF | Hello March.

It felt good to flip the page on my calendar this morning to see which photo would grace my desk for the next 31 days. Nothing like two of my favorite guys in coordinating plaid to make me smile! Also, a month that begins on a Friday, my favorite day of the week, just seems auspicious (never mind that February did, too!) Reflecting on the post I wrote for February’s Hope check-in, I realized I wanted something a little different for March. The actions I took in February were reactions … to discomfort, stress, everyday things. This month, I’m choosing a proactive approach – inspired by these words from Nelson Mandela…

    Looking Back | February.

Yep, one more catching up post before I’m ready to move on to March!  Today, I’m looking back at February through the lens of my daily photos: I’ve already shared most of these photos here or on Instagram, but I’m still surprised by the story all 28 photos tell together – what a month! The trip to Mexico over the last week was planned, but I had no idea Marc would be such a willing participant in the photos! Then there were the little boys – breakfast on the 11th, followed by two whole days with little Sam on the 14th and 15th. First signs of spring … and an…

    Hello March.

March 1, in our neighborhood Just three days in and I already remember why you’re one of my favorites: There are signs of spring everywhere (except the thermometer … brrrrrr it was freezing when we walked this morning!) and I’m looking forward to more – green leaves, azalea and dogwood blossoms and irises. The days are getting longer and there are more of them. I do love February, but the best months have 31 days! Chilled cocktails and porch time. This year, I am also looking forward to staying home all month. Traveling is great, but I’m ready to spend a few more weeks here. It also feels like the…

    Hello March!

…so happy to see you! (and thanks to Carole’s prompt this week, I know a lot of my friends are, too). As usual, I’m welcoming spring with a new blog banner and a new color scheme…and while that usually means flowers and/or blue skies…this year it’s rain boots. yep, I’m trying to go more with the flow and hey, they’re pink. with lots of tiny flowers. (and they keep my feet dry. and they coordinate with holly’s pink collar…which didn’t make the crop for the banner but you can see it all below). the banner photo…uncropped and that, dear March, is reason #1 I love you. a fresh spring-y look on…

    hello august.

…surely this summer has gone by faster than any other? this is the last week of summer break (school starts next monday). Sara and I did a bit of shopping saturday (taking advantage of the georgia tax holiday and for the most part avoiding long lines), and enjoyed lunch at brio.and yesterday I got caught up on elise’s paper adventure – hadn’t posted an entry since july 14 (which is only three weeks, I guess, but wow, that was back in july, before the beach, and it just seems like ages ago!) first up Quiet. I had the idea for this one before we left, and loved being able to…

    Year in Review | 2018.

Once again, I’m borrowing Vicki’s idea (Thank you, Vicki!) for an end of year post. The idea is to share the first line of the first blog post of each month and a favorite photo from that month’s posts. The words and photos are most likely not related. January Happy New Year! It was a quiet weekend around here.  February Hello February, I am glad to see you! March Hello! We had a wonderful vacation, but it feels good to be back here (finally!) April Sometimes Mondays … …begin with a few quiet moments and a heart full of gratitude. May It’s 80 degrees today …. with blue skies, sunshine and low humidity.…
