Today was the first day in two weeks that I didn’t have a single “commitment”. no Zoom or FaceTime. no pressing to-do list items. just me and a whole open (free?) column on my calendar. Pre-SAH, I typically had 2-3 days like this each month … and I’d usually spend them “at home”. maybe I’d take a long walk in the park with Lauren, but more likely, I’d dive into a project (Kon Mari-ing with Marc on Feb 11, or photographing a bunch of clothes for StyleBook on Feb 18). Here are three things I dove into today:
Thing One. Cutting my first Cleo Skirt. The fabric is a gorgeous Nani Iro cotton sateen (I bought a while back for another project). I also got my serger re-threaded with navy thread. ALL of the pieces I needed to cut were rectangles, and leaning into my new-found skill/love for the rotary cutter (sewing masks) I cut all the pieces that way. Tomorrow I sew!
Thing Two. Reading 100 pages of The Space Between Us. The story is really compelling and I’m almost not wanting to see how things turn out. I can’t imagine it’s going to be a happy ending.Still … I just had FOUR of those with the binge though Veronica Speedwell. Yes, I have four squares on my card, and The Space Between Us will fill the second row, fifth column.
Thing Three. I made more forward progress on my afghan. After Tuesday night’s unraveling, I decided this might not be the best project for after-dark/TV. Today, I think I found the perfect accompaniment! I’m a huge fan of Gretchen and Liz’s daily IG Live (4pm ET) … and I completed a full row plus a little while I watched.
Here’s the full view.I still have a long way to go. good thing I’m still in love with the project!
What good project is filling the free space in your calendar these days?
