Five on Friday.
Hello friends and Happy Friday! I haven’t done a Five on Friday post in years … but today it’s perfect. My favorite older grandson turned FIVE today and I had the privilege of joining him and his mom for a birthday outing to The High Museum with a very special lunch (his dad joined us, too) afterwards. I culled my photos, edited video, and even figured out how to link a video to a photo so I could share Five of my favorite moments from Charlie’s first day being Five!
Katie chose The High Museum for today’s outing because they’re hosting a special exhibit The Pursuit of Everything: Maira Kalman’s Books for Children. The High did a wonderful job showcasing Kalman’s work and making it accessible (literally) for children.
There were lots of interactive and “please touch me” parts – Charlie especially liked this magnetic board. Hopefully, if you click the photo you’ll see the video clip.
We had a little time before lunch to explore the permanent collections. Hands down, Charlie’s favorite was the Greene Family Learning Gallery which allowed him to make an origami dog (he took his home, but Katie and I added ours to the hanging installation featured in the Gallery’s opening image) … and then run around in front of a video screen and “see” his movement (yep, second video clip!).
We explored the museum a little longer and then walked to lunch. Charlie was surprised and delighted when Rob joined us (and maybe just a bit sad that little brother Sam wasn’t there too?!) We had a delicious lunch and I’m sure Charlie thought it was time to leave … and then the dessert came out. He found more room 🙂 but not before he made a wish!
There’s nothing like a birthday to start the weekend off right! Wishing all of you a good one!!

Five is so magical… because finally you can use all the fingers of one hand! (and thus begins the start of math skills – at least for my kids – with being ‘tricky’ and using both hands to show your age! But those video photos… LOVE!!!
Have a great weekend! (and happiest of birthday’s Charlie!!)
Dee
Happy FIFTH birthday, Charlie.

Happy Birthday, Charlie! Wow, where does the time go? It’s moving far too fast, but it’s wonderful to see Charlie off and running as he begins his sixth year! May it be a happy and healthy one.
