Just Life

Weekending with the Boys.

Hello friends – it’s good to be back! I have two fun weekends to share with y’all and I’m going to start with the most recent one. Our favorite little boys (and their parents) arrived Thursday afternoon. Katie and Rob had an 8am flight to Charlottesville (one of Rob’s college buddies was getting married) Friday morning and they decided it would be easier for everyone if they spent Thursday night here. Good call. Friday still started dark early, but at least everyone slept. Most of my camera roll is full of video and I compiled 52 of my favorite seconds to share on Instagram today.

I do love 1 Second Everyday … and the pool, especially because Marc totally rocked the “Cool Poppa” with all the games he played in the water. But the photos tell a great story too.

Starting with breakfast on Friday morning. I finally had the opportunity to make Bonny’sĀ pancakes (she sent me the recipe back in 2017 and I’ve been waiting …)

Later that morning, we learned that the best way to get the boys to smile – or make a funny face – was to tell them to pose for a photo to send their folks.

Sam at Sprouts … shopping for strawberries and watermelon
Charlie and his Saturday morning smoothie
…and Sam with his
Saturday afternoon at the pool

There was lots (and lots) of movement, but two of my favorite photos capture moments of stillness.

Friday afternoon driving home from the pool. Yes, they really do hold hands. and yep, Sammy was asleep before we left the parking lot.
Friday evening watching Curious George.

…and yesterday afternoon, after the boys were home, there was this.Ā

It was a good weekend. and yes, we’re going to be going to bed early again tonight!

Hope your week is off to a great start – happy Monday!

Those 52 seconds exhausted me! But, what fun – for everyone! I love the hand holding picture! Oh! My heart melted!

  • Bonny

I’m not sure if grandchildren will be in my future, but after these great photos and your video, I can certainly say that I hope so! Holding hands and pancake goggles are adorable, and Sam and Charlie are beyond sweet.

  • Sarah

I am not that far removed from having a kid their age and yet I was still tired watching that video! It looks like a great time, but I’m guessing you two will have a few more early evenings to recover fully.

  • Vera

What a joyful post! LOVE the picture of Charlie and Sam holding hands – just the sweetest. Pancake goggles are a quick second – lol. Looks like Marc had as much fun in the water as the boys did. It’s so nice that you get to spend time with them. Welcome home!!

  • Patty

What a great couple of days! The pool shots are so fun. I’ve got that book in my queue too…I may have to renew as I’ve not started it yet! Welcome back Mary!

  • Vicki

Oh boy, I know just how much busy & fun that kind of weekend is!! It looks like they really had a blast at the pool! The boys are getting so big!! (And look at how long your hair is getting!)

  • Jeannie Gray

Wow! They are definitely brothers – they look exactly alike! And now I’m wanting strawberry pancakes. Looks like you had a fantastic, although tiring, weekend.

  • Alexa

Oh my. You are to be congratulated on your stamina! What a super activity-filled time they have had with you, and lots of fabulous memories for you all. I can quite understand the need to recover! Your pancakes look like our ‘Scotch pancakes’ or ‘drop scones’ as they’re known here; when I ask our grandchildren what they want me to make for them when they visit, ‘drop scones’ is always top of the bill :).

  • Margene

The busyness of kids! I haven’t been around it for years. They certainly have a lot of fun wearing themselves and their grandparents out! I love all the photos!

  • karen

what a fantastic weekend I hope to have grands one day (doesn’t look like it so far). They are growing bigger every time you post about them.

Looks like you all had a grand time! I loved the photo of their holding hands! Priceless!
