Just Life

Memorial Day Weekending.

Hello, friends! I’m just resurfacing after a long weekend full of fun and family* … and it’s good to be back here! My folks started a family weekend getaway tradition years ago (before some of the grandkids who have now all graduated college were even in school) and it’s adapted over time … where we go (closer is better), when we go (Memorial Day seems to be the favorite), accommodations (we like to be close together – a single house is great!) … and these past few years, my mom has been fine-tuning that last piece. Now that the grandkids are grown and we have a new – much younger! – generation to accommodate, we need more space (and more bedrooms). This year’s house had ten bedrooms, was just a 30 minute drive from my house, had a pool … and a gorgeous view of Lake Lanier. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for next year!

Everyone who does Big Family Gatherings knows how important the planning is. My mom takes the lead, and we assign specific responsibilities for every dish at every meal. She also reminds us to bring hand soap, toilet paper and pool towels. Lists are key!

…and all that planning pays off – the food, drink and games were top-notch,

the pool was our saving grace (temps reached the mid 90’s most days … yay for shade. and sunscreen!),

and we had time to connect with each other (and even find a few willing folks to take the photos) …

me and Sara (and stickers!!)
my brother Steve, Rob, and my brother-in-law Ron … cooking steaks with the Georgia Tech baseball game on the iPad
Sam and Katie – proving TWO can be fun!

I even found enough alone time to finish my first book of the summer (I’m not quite sure where it will fit on my Bingo card

…and garnered enough good will to lasso the crowd for a group photo. This is my favorite outtake

… and a really fun way to end this post!

Wishing you a good (short!) week … and a wonderful beginning of summer. Happy Tuesday!

*following a difficult short week that was sad and hard. I learned on Tuesday that one of the dear ladies from my Friday morning small group passed away (very unexpectedly) and the pantry run on Wednesday (without my mom) presented a few challenges that left me drained. I was able to really Get Away over the weekend and it was wonderful … I look forward to catching up with all of you. Soon!

Life is filled with memories and your family holiday getaways are some of the best. It is always a treat to see those little boys – they do grow, don’t they?! And Sara- glad she could join you.

what fun! Love to see your family all together and happy! We were in Canada over that weekend and it took days to plan and days to unpack and get back to regular life. All was good and worth it though.

I am so so SO far behind on my blog reading… but how fun is this, even a couple of weeks later?? I laughed at all the stickers plastered on people’s shirts. Hm. Who could have been behind that??? 🙂
